‘Remembering Henry James’ was a digital exhibition commemorating the centenary of James’ death. It featured original artwork, animation, and soundscapes to tell the story of James’ life and work at Lamb House.
The exhibition was on display at Lamb House throughout 2016. I presented the project at the National Trust LSE conference in 2018.

“Lamb House is a wonderful property in the NT London and South East region, but it is a ‘small’ property in terms of size, visitor footfall and resource. Thoughtful, comprehensive and inspiring interpretation that responds to moments in time is hard to resource. So in creating a digital exhibition to celebrate the centenary of Henry James’ death, Hannah was able to capture a special moment and show us a way of celebrating and interpreting this anniversary that was completely new. She tapped into the spirit of James and Lamb House with sensitivity and insight, drawing out stories while maintaining a close connection to place.
This has proved a real inspiration in thinking about what else we can do. We perennially face into the challenge of balancing great access with careful conservation – but by including digital and online channels as part of our suite of access, we broaden our opportunities to reach more people without putting special places under undue pressure.
The exhibition itself is beautifully presented, and we were delighted with the carefully curated design. The tone is also beautifully done, using moments and stories than laborious chronological narration. The project has been very successful in helping us celebrate the centenary with as wide an audience as possible, while opening our minds to the possibilities of digital interpretation. We were truly thrilled to work with Hannah and hope very much we can make use of her considerable talents again in the future.”
